Sergeant Bluff is one of the few of the communities across the state currently receiving grant funding from the Iowa Department of Health to support the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! initiative. Sergeant Bluff recently installed the NEOS 360 which is an interactive piece of playground equipment. Players can choose from multiple games which prompts the NEOS 360 to display lights and play music.

The City of Sergeant Bluff was selected to receive $15,000 in grant funding as part of our second year of participating in the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! Program.  5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! is a nationally recognized and evidence-based prevention framework to promote healthy habits. The goal is to increase physical activity and healthy eating through policy and environmental change. 5-2-1-0 focuses on the importance of four simple daily health habits:

5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables

2 hours or less of screen time (television, computer, video games, phones, etc.)

1 hour or more of physical activity

0 (or reduce) sugar-sweetened beverages - drink more water!
