Golf Cart Permits

Golf Cart Permits can be applied for at City Hall located at 501 4th Street. As part of the application process you will need to provide:

  1. Name
  2. Phone Number
  3. Residential Address
  4. Serial/VIN (if applicable)
  5. Drivers License#
  6. Must be 18 years of age or older
  7. E-mail Address
  8. Permit fee of $50.00
  9. Your insurance card for the Golf Cart

 

  • Golf carts must maintain liability insurance.
  • Golf carts cannot be operated on public sidewalks, trails less than eight feet wide, or in City Parks.
  • Golf carts cannot be operated on South Lewis Boulevard/Old U.S. Highway 75, First Street/210th Street, Old Lakeport Road, 8th Street, West Ridge Road, Dogwood Trail, or 220th Street.
  • Golf carts shall be allowed to cross prohibited streets directly and without delay.
  • Golf carts may only be operated on City streets or trails from sunrise to sunset.
  • Golf carts shall be equipped with adequate brakes, a slow-moving vehicle sign and a bicycle safety flag.
  • The driver of the golf cart shall be at least eighteen (18) years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • The golf cart must be brought to a complete stop before crossing a street, and the driver of the golf cart must yield the right-of-way to all oncoming traffic that constitutes an immediate hazard.
  • The golf cart, if operating on a trail, must yield the right-of-way to all other traffic.
  • The driver may allow passengers, but only so many as the golf cart is designed to carry. All passengers must be seated in a seat designed for carrying passengers.
  • Golf carts shall not exceed 25 miles per hour.
  • All owners of golf carts operated on City streets and trails must obtain a permit from City Hall and affix a City issued sticker to any cart prior to use on City streets and trails pursuant to the policy and fees set by Resolution of the Council.
  • No person shall operate a golf cart while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • No person shall operate a golf cart in a careless, reckless, or negligent manner endangering the person or property of another or causing injury or damage to same.
  • The operator of the golf cart shall be responsible for any municipal infraction issued.
  • Golf carts are subject to the same parking regulations as a motorized vehicle; the permit holder shall be responsible for any parking citation issued.
  • Operating a golf cart requires observation of all State and local traffic code provisions.
  • Golf cart permits are non-transferable and shall be deemed void upon sale. No refunds and no proration.
  • The Chief of Police may revoke the permit of any golf cart in the event of repeated violations, following a notice and opportunity for a hearing.
  • The applicant agrees to indemnify and hold the City of Sergeant Bluff harmless from any litigation that may arise from the operation of a golf cart on City streets.
  • Golf cart permits expire December 31 on evenly numbered calendar years.
  • Operators of golf carts shall review Chapter 74 - Code of Ordinances for further rules and regulations.
