The City of Sergeant Bluff has an opening for Seasonal Part-Time employment position with the Public Works Department for mid-August through late-October 2020 season. Duties will consist of mowing & trimming at all city facilities. This includes parks, lift stations, public buildings grounds, maintenance compound, city road right of ways and drainage ditches.
As a condition of employment, the person in this position shall be required to work on any Saturday that the compost site is open. These hours are from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. at the City compost site. All other hours will be scheduled by department head.
This position offers flexible hours ranging between 20-30 hours per week. Starting wage is $12.50 per hour. IPERS benefits available.

BUILDING INSPECTIONS/FIRE/POLICE AIDE. The City of Sergeant Bluff, IA (est. pop 4,900) is
seeking qualified applicants for the permanent part‐time position Responsible for assisting the
Fire Chief, Police Chief and Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer in providing technical
and administrative work with respect to building construction inspections, police department
enforcement and operations, fire inspections, fire department EMS response and reporting,
property maintenance and nuisance abatement, residential rental inspections; to be trained to
enforce the City’s building safety program to include plan review, issuance of building permits,
and accessibility regulations; performs on‐site inspections of building construction and repair
work to assure compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other related
codes and compliance with specific standards of materials, workmanship and safety. The
position is intended to be thirty‐two (32) hours per week. Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement
System (IPERS) offered as a benefit. Must possess strong organizational, time management and
interpersonal skills, and be able to respond quickly to complaints and handle confrontation in a
positive, productive manner. Any combination of education, training, and experience which
provides the required knowledge, skills and/or abilities to perform the essential functions of the
job will be considered. Minimum of combined five (5) years code enforcement, law
enforcement, and fire department experience. Certification by the International Code Council
as a Residential Building Inspector, Fire Inspector, Police Reserve and Property Maintenance
Enforcement, or ability to obtain such certifications within two (2) years of employment. Must
have valid Iowa driver’s license. Salary position at $30,000‐36,000 range. Must live within five
miles of the City limits and/or be able to relocate within six months of employment. Submit
