Essential duties of the Planning & Zoning Commission include making policy statements and recommendations to the City Council on zoning issues, improvements, annexation, growth, transportation, economic development, parks & open space, the environment and the City's Comprehensive plan.

The Planning & Zoning Commission meets the first Tuesday of each month with additional meetings as necessary.  Each of the nine members on the Planning Commission serves a five (5) year term.

Qualified candidates must be a citizen of the City of Sergeant Bluff and possess the knowledge or experience to act in matters pertaining to the development of a City plan.  Applicants must not currently hold a seat on the City Council.

The Planning Commission affords residents the opportunity to actively participate in the planning of the City and its welfare; to learn all facets of the regulations governing such functions; interact with a variety of citizens participating in shaping Sergeant Bluff's future; and assume an active role in regulation changes involving zoning and subdivision activity.  The City of Sergeant Bluff is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The Planning and Zoning Division performs a variety of services intended to protect, maintain, and develop an attractive, safe, and healthy environment. Primary functions address property development and land use activities occurring in the City.

Responsibilities
The Planning and Zoning Division provides direction and leadership in implementing the goals, objectives, and policies of the City as adopted by the City Council.

The Division is also responsible for the orderly development of the City and the administration of various land use regulations, including the zoning code, design review ordinances, sign code, and the cultural resources preservation ordinance.

The Planning and Zoning Division also provides technical assistance and staff support to the Planning Board.

All members of the Planning & Zoning Board are volunteer, serving their communtiy without any compensation.

Meetings are held on the First Tuesday of every month at 6pm.
