Compost Site
Spring 2023 "Free Clean up Week" will be Mon-Fri, April 10th-14th from 9am to 7pm and Sat., April 15th from 9am to 5pm. The electronic recycling event will be Sat., April 15th from 8am-12noon next to the Community Center. Fees range from $5 to $45.
The City compost site is available to Sergeant Bluff taxpayers for the collection, disposal and composting of landscape wastes. The site is also available to encourage community clean-up by serving as a temporary location for the collection of furnishings or white goods to allow the safe and sanitary disposal of such items through recycling or transport by the city's solid waste contractor. Household solid waste items such as bottles, food scraps, food packaging, cans, etc. are not allowed and must be collected and disposed of in accordance with city ordinance chapter 106. Residents are required to obtain an annual pass, free of charge, from City Hall prior to taking leaves and yard debris up to the Compost Site. This will need to be renewed every calendar year. Landscape and Lawn Care Businesses will be required to purchase an annual pass for $150.00 to utilize the compost site. Please read and complete the form and return it to City Hall to receive your pass.
Residents are required to obtain an annual pass, free of charge, from City Hall prior to taking leaves and yard debris up to the Compost Site.
The compost site regular hours are Wednesdays 3:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturdays 10:00am to 3:00pm and is usually open from April to November, weather permitting.
A Car Load/ Pickup/Van/SUV/Single Axle trailer is $20.00, Large truck/Multiple Axle is $65.00 Tickets are purchased at City Hall during normal business hours. The grass/brush/trees/branches can be disposed of at the compost site at no charge. White good items are accepted and each item is $15.00 to take to the compost site. White good items include but are not limited to: refrigerator, freezers, commercial coolers, air conditioning units, dehumidifiers, gas water heaters, furnaces, clothes washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwave ovens, and other items that contain mercury switches, refrigerant or PCB.

Items that are NOT ACCEPTED at the site include: electronics, batteries, paint, broken concrete, asphalt, used oil, bricks, tires, recyclable goods, fluorescent light bulbs, treated lumber (with creosote , such as railroad ties), gas and oil filters and containers, and solvents or cleaners, household solid waste items such as bottles, food scraps, food packaging, cans, etc. are not allowed and must be collected and disposed of in accordance with city ordinance chapter 106.
Annual Clean-Up Weeks
The opening of the compost site is with Spring clean-up week in April. Weather permitting.
The closing of the compost site is with Fall clean-up week in November. Weather permitting.
